What It Really Costs to Move a Squarespace Site
Short answer: Anywhere from $0 to $25,000. Automated tools cost under $150 but don’t mention redirects. Agencies publish prices from under $800 for a small site to $5,000 and up for stores. The biggest difference between a cheap move and a safe one is the SEO work, mainly redirects, which some providers price separately. Always ask what’s included before comparing prices. Ours is one fixed price for Squarespace sites, with every old link mapped and tested.
Every figure below comes from the provider’s or publisher’s own page, checked in October 2026. Most of these sources sell migrations, so read their numbers with that in mind. We do too.
The price ladder
| Option | Price | What you get | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Do it yourself with Claude | A paid Claude plan: $20 a month, or $17 a month billed yearly1 | Your time and full control | Takes longer than expected. One owner spent 2 days building and 3 more fixing.2 |
| Automated tools (example: BrowserCat) | $49 to $149 one-time3 | A rebuilt site in code, in your own GitHub account | Redirects aren’t mentioned. Optional hosting is $10 a month.3 |
| Small agencies, small sites | Up to about $800 (general website migrations, not Squarespace-specific)4 | A few pages moved by a person | Ask whether redirects are included. |
| Freelancers, typical moves | $1,000 to $5,000, by one estimate5 | Varies a lot | Quality and scope vary. Get the inventory in writing. |
| Agencies, published tiers | From $1,500 (small brochure site), from $3,500 (larger marketing site), from $5,000 (bigger sites and shops)6 | A managed project | Compare scope, not just price. |
| Agencies, complex sites | $5,000 to $25,0005 | Stores, integrations, redesigns | Often includes a redesign you may not need. |
| Promptable Sites | $1,495, or $995 if you let us publish your results | A Squarespace site moved into your own accounts, every old link redirected and tested, and set up to edit with Claude | Fixed price is for Squarespace sites. Other platforms, stores, and member areas get a custom assessment. |
Why prices vary so much
The SEO work. One cost guide lists the SEO pieces of a migration as separate line items: URL mapping ($500 to $8,000), setting up redirects ($400 to $5,000), rebuilding internal links ($800 to $6,000), and 90 days of monitoring ($1,500 to $8,000).7 Those ranges cover sites of every size, including very large ones. The point for a small business: if a quote doesn’t mention redirects, assume they aren’t included.
Site size and type. A five-page brochure site is a different job from a store with hundreds of products.6
Redesign or not. Many agency quotes include a new design. If you want your site moved as it is, say so.
Who keeps the site. Some services host your new site on their platform for a monthly fee. Others hand you the files. Ask which.
Questions to ask any provider
- Will every old page address still work? Ask how many addresses they’ll map and whether they’ll show you the list.
- Do you set up and test 301 redirects? “We’ll handle SEO” isn’t an answer.
- What happens to my email? If you use Google Workspace or another email service on your domain, a wrong setting can stop your email.
- Who owns the finished site? Your accounts, or theirs?
- What doesn’t move? Stores, member areas, forms, and booking tools often need extra work.
- What’s included after launch? How long do they fix problems for free?
- What will I pay each month afterward? Hosting, plans, and tools.

The running costs after a move
Moving changes your monthly bill too. For a site you own, hosting plain files on Cloudflare is free, with no limit on visits.8 Editing by asking Claude needs a paid plan, $200 a year billed yearly, or $20 a month.1 Squarespace Core is $348 a year.9 The yearly saving is real but small. The better reasons to move are speed of change, AI that keeps your site current, and owning it. More: Should You Leave Squarespace After the 2026 Price Increase?
Questions owners ask
Why is your price higher than automated tools? Tools rebuild the pages. We also map and test every old address, keep your email working through the switch, check the site on phones and laptops, and set you up to make edits yourself. If a redirect fails within 30 days, we fix it free.
Why is it lower than many agencies? We do one thing: move Squarespace sites as they are, without a redesign. Agents do much of the work, and a person checks it.
Is the cheapest option ever the right one? Yes, for a site that doesn’t get much search traffic. If Google doesn’t send you customers, there’s less to protect.
My site has a store or member area. What does that cost? Email hello@promptablesites.com for a custom migration assessment.
