How to Edit Your Website by Talking to Claude

Short answer: When your website is plain files in your own GitHub account, you can open Claude Code, describe the change you want in plain words, check a preview, and publish. No editor, no developer. It needs a paid Claude plan, and it works best when your site comes with clear rules for Claude to follow.

How it works

  1. Your site lives in GitHub, as a set of files: one per page, plus styles and images.
  2. You open Claude Code, in your browser at claude.ai/code or in the Claude desktop app.1 In the browser, you connect your GitHub account once, and Claude can work on your site’s files from then on.2
  3. You describe the change. “Add our new phone number to the footer.”
  4. Claude makes the change across every file that needs it, and shows you exactly what changed.2
  5. You check a preview of the site with the change.
  6. You approve it, and the site updates.

Keeping changes safe

Claude can change anything, which is the point. It also means a careless request could break something. Good habits:

Sites we move come with a site guide for Claude. It describes how your site is built and sets rules Claude follows, like matching your existing design and never changing a page address without a redirect. Changes are checked automatically before they can go live.

Let an agent maintain your site

You don’t have to start every change yourself. Claude Code routines run on their own, on a schedule you set: hourly, daily, weekdays, or weekly. By default, each run saves its changes to a separate branch in GitHub. Protect your main branch with a rule nobody can bypass, including you, and nothing goes live until you approve it. Routines push as your GitHub account, so a rule you can skip, they can skip too.3 Weekly is the longest schedule you can pick on the web. Monthly needs a custom setting, which we set up for you.

Routines you might set up:

Removing old posts safely. When a routine suggests cutting a post, don’t just delete it. Point its address to the closest related page with a redirect, or Google treats it as a missing page. See The Redirect Checklist.

Routines are in research preview, so details may change. They’re available on paid plans and use the same usage limits as the rest of your Claude plan.3

What it costs

Claude Code is included in every paid Claude plan. Pro is $20 a month, or $17 a month billed yearly.4 Your hosting on Cloudflare is free for a site of plain files.5

What it’s not for

If you ask for something your site can’t support, Claude should say so plainly.

Questions owners ask

Do I need to know code? No. You describe changes in plain words and check the preview.

Can I edit from my phone? Claude Code also runs in the Claude app on iOS and Android.1 Check the preview carefully on a small screen before publishing.

What if I don’t like a change? Ask Claude to undo it, or go back to an earlier version in GitHub.

Can I use a different AI tool instead of Claude? Yes. Your site is plain files in your own account, so any tool that can edit files can work on it. If you’d rather start with a different tool, email hello@promptablesites.com for a custom migration assessment.

Will my site still rank on Google after edits? Normal edits don’t hurt rankings. Changing a page’s address without a redirect can, so keep that rule.
